NFL legend, Jim Brown previously held the rushing record with 12,312 yards in 9 seasons. He held the record for 19 years before Hall of Famer, Walter Payton finally surpassed the former MVP.
In his tenth NFL season, Payton entered the year with 11,625 yards, just 687 yards shy of the record. In a 20-7 win over the New Orleans Saints, Payton dominated on the ground, running for 154 yards and finishing the day with 12,400 career rushing yards.
He would retire in 1987 with 16,726 yards, a record that stood until it was broken by Emmitt Smith in 2002.
